Harris County Emergency Services District No. 11 (ESD11) has commenced construction on a new campus to house the new ambulance service in Houston, Texas.

Located at 18334 Stuebner Airline Road in Spring, north of Houston, the new 43-acre site will include construction of six buildings, including the district’s main administration building, its ambulance deployment centre, a fleet maintenance facility, 911 call centre and a car wash.

A 164-foot communications tower for the district’s new communications system will also be constructed at the campus.

The property was acquired by ESD11 on 14 January this year and work commenced on the first of three construction phases.

The first phase will include initial groundwork, demolition, and a complete renovation of the main administration building and is expected to be completed in August.

The Phase I construction is estimated to cost between $15m and $18m.

ESD11 executive director Doug Hooten said: “This is an incredible step forward for the families who live in our District.”

“Building this campus, having everything and everyone in one place, is about being efficient — efficient in our staffing, our maintenance, and ultimately in our readiness. It’s the reason ESD11 will be able to put more ambulances on the road, for a lot less taxpayer money.”

The new ambulance service is planned to be launched on 4 September, after the district’s contract with the current provider expires.
