Dexter Nova Alliance, led by local contractors Dexter Construction and Nova Construction, with BBGI as an equity partner, has been awarded a contract to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the 38km twinned segment of Highway 104 in Nova Scotia, Canada.

The alliance was chosen as the preferred proponent in January this year.

The CAD717.9m ($513m) project includes the construction of a twinned highway beginning east of New Glasgow, near Exit 27 at Sutherlands River, and running east for a distance of 38km.

The total cost of the project includes CAD364.3m for construction and CAD196.4m for ongoing operations and maintenance and a major upgrade of the existing stretch of highway during the 20-year operating period.

The project will also receive CAD90m from the federal government under the National Trade Corridors Fund.

The highway scheme includes 28km of a new two-lane twinned highway and 10 kilometres of new four-lane twinned highway. Also, it will include two new interchanges and about 24 new bridges.

As part of the contact, Dexter Nova Alliance will also upgrade the highway’s existing section, including repaving the overall segment of the old road and replace seven existing bridges.

Construction on the project will commence in June this year and will be completed by 2023.

Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Lloyd Hines said: “This project will save lives. Nova Scotians were clear that they want safe roads now. This will mean a safer, affordable and more efficient highway being opened years earlier than a conventional highway project.”
