GRAHAM-BAM Healthcare Partnership (GBHP) has completed the construction of Royal Victoria Hospital’s Belfast Maternity Unit Phase B1 in Northern Ireland, UK.

The £85m ($107.27m) facility has been officially handed over to the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.

The GBHP has delivered a modern five-storey unit designed to meet the changing needs of expectant mothers and their families.

This facility has en-suite rooms featuring birthing pools, delivery suites, obstetric theatres, and a neonatal intensive care unit, all situated on one floor to facilitate easy access.

It is expected to improve the birthing experience for the more than five thousand women who use the Royal Jubilee Maternity Service each year.

Belfast Trust Finance, Estates & Capital Development director Maureen Edwards said: “Belfast Health and Social Care Trust is delighted that the handover of the new maternity hospital from contractors, GRAHAM-BAM, has taken place.

“This is a significant step in delivering a new modern facility which will provide a high standard of care for our mothers and their new babies.”

GBHP, in collaboration with the Trust’s management and stakeholders, implemented stringent logistical and infection prevention strategies during construction.

This move was intended to minimise impact on the surrounding hospital operations and ensure patient and staff safety.

GBHP director Peter Reavey said: “This new Maternity Hospital represents the future of maternity care for Belfast. We are proud to deliver a facility that not only meets the highest standards of safety and comfort, but also fosters an environment of support and empowerment for mothers and their newborns.”

In June 2019, GBHP completed the £30m Acute Mental Health Inpatient Centre at Belfast City Hospital on behalf of the Trust.

In March 2024, GRAHAM commenced construction works on Leeds Trinity University’s new facilities at 1 Trevelyan Square.
