Arcadis has been chosen to design and construct Wallbox’s new electric vehicle (EV) charger manufacturing facility in Arlington, Texas, US.

Following a collaborative design process, the team started building the 130,000 ft2 facility in April.

The plant is anticipated to generate 250,000 units in 2022 as it goes into production in Q3.

By 2025, the facility is anticipated to generate over 500,000 units annually.

Wallbox’s UL chargers are claimed to be compatible to all-electric vehicles.

In addition to manufacturing, the site will also have offices, labs, evaluation areas and a warehouse.

Arcadis vice president of industrial infrastructure Ketan Maroo said, “Charging infrastructure and manufacturing are critical to supporting EV adoption.

“EV adoption is essential in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating the effects of climate change. Our team is proud to play a part in driving sustainable mobility forward.”

The facility is anticipated to create 250 jobs in the region.

Wallbox project manager Pablo Moleiro said, “Arcadis has worked alongside our team from the earliest stages of this project, and together we have been able to bring this project to life on an accelerated schedule for maximum impact.

“North America needs electric vehicle chargers, and we are thrilled to be able to help accelerate the transition by making EV charging easier and more accessible”.

Arcadis has considered critical aspects such as humidity control and dust mitigation into the factory’s design.

The team has also considered plans for fitting future solar panels and for sourcing recyclable furniture, to cut down the overall carbon footprint of the facility.
