Construction works have begun on a women’s industrial city in Saudi Arabia, the first industrial city that will exclusively host women’s businesses.

The city, which is estimated to cost SAR111m ($29.5m), will be developed at Modon Oasis, east of Al-Ahsa International Airport and near the cities of Hofuf and Mubarraz.

The project aims to provide more working opportunities for women to offer them greater financial independence.

Being built on an area of 500,000m², the industrial city will be divided into a 140,000m² commercial section, a 170,000m² industrial section and a 120,000m² services area.

The city is designed to accommodate heavy industries, particularly manufacturing, and aims to attract industrial projects run by women.
