Meta is developing a next-generation data centre in Lebanon, Indiana, US, designed to provide 1GW of capacity.

The company plans to invest approximately $10bn in the Lebanon facility, making it one of Meta’s largest infrastructure projects to date and the largest infrastructure investment in Indiana.

Due to be delivered in multiple phases, the data centre is designed to support both AI workloads and the company’s core digital services.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the project took place in February 2026.

The scheme is expected to employ more than 4,000 skilled construction workers at peak build-out and to create around 300 permanent operational roles when fully commissioned.

Meta Lebanon data centre location

The new data centre campus will occupy around four million square feet (371,612m²) on a 1,500-acre site within the LEAP Innovation and Research District in Boone County, Lebanon, Indiana.

The LEAP Innovation District extends across roughly 9,000 acres along Indiana’s I-65 Hard Tech Corridor.

The Lebanon development is Meta’s second data centre project in Indiana and its 27th facility in the US. The company’s 28th facility is currently under development in Oklahoma, US.

The development aligns with the increasing investment in data centre construction globally, with the Americas, particularly the US, accounting for the largest share of the pipeline. Around 27% of the region’s data centre project pipeline is already in the execution stage, according to GlobalData’s latest report, Project Insight: Global Data Center Construction Projects (Q2 2026).

Details of Meta Lebanon data centre

The Lebanon data centre campus will comprise 13 buildings including ten data halls and additional facilities for logistics and warehousing, as well as network and administrative support functions.

The gigawatt-scale facility is designed to provide the capacity and flexibility to meet both types of demand, while aiming to deliver higher bandwidth, lower latency and enhanced resilience.

The large-scale facility is designed to accommodate the infrastructure needed for Meta’s core services and its AI-related activities as global AI capabilities expand and computing requirements continue to increase.

The data centre will be entirely powered by four new clean and renewable energy projects backed by the company in line with its stated clean energy and sustainability commitments. Collectively, these schemes are expected to add 409MW of new renewable capacity in Indiana.

Sustainability features

The Lebanon data centre is being developed to meet LEED Gold certification standards.

The facility will use a water-efficient, closed-loop liquid cooling system that recirculates water and is designed to operate with zero water use for much of the year. The company also aims to return the full volume of water it consumes in Lebanon to local watersheds.

Meta partnered with the City of Lebanon to fund the full cost of water supply and wastewater services associated with the data centre.

The company also collaborated with Wabash Valley Power Alliance and Boone Power to forecast its electricity requirements and to make sure the data centre covers the complete cost of the power it consumes, so household customers are not adversely affected.

Over the life of the project, the company plans to invest more than $120m in Lebanon’s water infrastructure and other public works, including road improvements, transmission lines and utility upgrades.

Additionally, Meta is working with Arable to deploy irrigation technology for independent farmers in the Upper Wabash River Basin in Indiana. This initiative is expected to restore approximately 200 million gallons of water annually over ten years and to help lower irrigation costs for participating farmers.

Contractors involved

Turner Construction Company, a construction services company, Mortenson, a construction company, and Faith Technologies, a construction and engineering company, have been selected by Meta to provide construction services for the Lebanon data centre campus.

Mortenson will provide its data centre construction services for the project.

Faith Technologies’ scope of work includes establishing manufacturing and integration facilities close to the site that can handle high-volume output and developing two warehouse hubs to ensure materials are supplied to the site smoothly and without interruption.
