Wynne Construction has reached a pre-construction services agreement for UK-based Wrexham University’s new enterprise, engineering, and optics centre (EEOC).

The £30m enterprise is being constructed as part of the North Wales Growth Deal.

The building forms an integral part of the Growth Deal investment in the region, spearheaded by Ambition North Wales and bolstered by £240m in funding from both the Welsh and UK governments.

Its primary objective is to establish itself as a central hub for the design and construction of composite and optical products.

The new 2,187m² site will allow the university to collaborate with business partners and spearhead research on advanced solutions.

The solutions will be used to implement lightweight composite materials and adopt hydrogen fuel.

Wynne is set to take the lead in the initial planning and design phase of the facility, to be located at the Plas Coch campus. The aim is to initiate construction by February next year.

Wynne Construction managing director Chris Wynne said: “Extending beyond job creation and development opportunities with our supply chain, we will work to ensure environmental sustainability and support initiatives that preserve and celebrate the ambition behind this project.

“The design process is already underway, and we look forward to bringing our expertise to this scheme to create a first-class building that leaves a lasting legacy of social, economic, and environmental benefit for Wrexham and surrounding areas.”
