Willmott Dixon has started construction on a new centre in Stockport, England, which will bring health, leisure, and community services together under a single roof.

The £20m ($26.35m) sustainable development, dubbed Marple Community Hub, is funded in part by the UK government’s Levelling Up Fund and procured through Procure Partnerships.

Upon its planned opening in 2026, the new hub will feature a library, five-lane swimming pool, 60-station gym, café, and a new home for Marple Clinic.

The project will offer improved access for walking and cycling and inclusive spaces for supporting well-being, community connection, and civic pride.

Stockport Council deputy leader Mark Roberts said: “This is a major milestone for Marple - a project driven by local voices and delivered in partnership to meet the needs of residents now and for the future.

"The hub is a landmark investment in the future of our borough - it’s about more than just bricks and mortar. It’s about creating a vibrant, inclusive space that brings people together, supports healthier lifestyles, and strengthens our local economy.”

Willmott Dixon said it has so far created six new employment opportunities and supported 47 apprentice weeks.

The project represents more work in the borough for Willmott Dixon, with the company recently delivering Stockport Interchange and Viaduct Park.

Last month, Oldham Council selected Willmott Dixon to undertake the construction of a new Visitor Centre and Forestry Skills Centre at Northern Roots, set to become the UK’s largest urban farm and eco-park.
