The Road and Motorway Directorate of the Czech Republic has awarded a €364m ($429m) contract to a consortium led by Eurovia CZ, a subsidiary of VINCI Construction in the Czech Republic, for the construction of the final section of the D11 motorway.

The final section of the motorway runs between Jaroměř and Trutnov.

Under the contract, the consortium will construct 20km of new roadway, a 767m tunnel and 31 bridges with a combined length of 2.5km.

Work on this project is slated to start this month and is expected to be completed by the end of 2029.

VINCI said: “The project will be carried out in a way that respects the environment and local residents. The tunnel and 12km of noise barriers will reduce noise pollution. In addition, wildlife migration corridors have been identified, studied and secured.”

The D11 motorway is a component of the EU’s Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), which seeks to establish an “efficient, multimodal and high-quality transport infrastructure” across the EU.

Upon completion, the motorway will stretch 155km from Prague to the Polish border.

The D11 Motorway project stands among the five largest road infrastructure initiatives in Europe launched in the last quarter of 2024, based on GlobalData’s construction projects database.

Earlier this month, Prague’s water management company awarded a €192m contract to a consortium led by a VINCI Construction subsidiary to upgrade the Prague central wastewater treatment plant.

The programme covers dismantling existing equipment and demolishing and rebuilding 40 structures at the site. Contractors will also refit facilities with new water treatment technologies.

Work is due to start in October 2026 and run for 43 months. The scope includes rebuilding eight of the plant’s 20 settling tanks and refurbishing four.

Vinci Construction, through Eurovia CZ and other entities, operates extensively in the Czech Republic, reporting over €1.2bn in revenue in 2025.

The VINCI Group operates in the country through VINCI Energies, which focuses on constructing electrical infrastructure, and Vinci Concessions, which manages the public-private partnership for the D4 motorway (Via Salis).

The Group employs over 5,400 people in the Czech Republic.
