Poplar HARCA, a housing and regeneration community association, and house builder Hill Group have been granted planning permission by Tower Hamlets Council for the regeneration of the Teviot Estate in East London, England.

This project will see the creation of 1,928 new homes, including 508 affordable units, representing a 65% increase in affordable housing.

The regeneration will not only provide new housing but also aims to enhance the quality of life for residents with improved green spaces, community facilities, children's play areas, and local amenities such as shops and cafés.

A key feature of the project is the reprovision of the local mosque.

A community-led approach has been central to the planning process, with Poplar HARCA emphasising the involvement of Teviot residents in shaping the plans.

Residents currently living in the area and paying social rent will have the option to continue on social rent in the new development.

The development will be executed in four phases, with the first phase set to begin in 2026.

The first completions are anticipated by 2028.

Developments include upgrades to Langdon Park and the addition of a new pontoon on the Limehouse Cut Canal, which will expand opportunities for water sports and outdoor activities.

To date, £427,000 ($580,173) has been invested to initiate community-focused projects, with further investments planned for the future.

Hill Group founder and group CEO Andy Hill OBE said: "This is a landmark moment for Teviot and a major step forward in delivering lasting change for the community. Securing planning permission means we can now move forward with our shared vision, which prioritises creating high-quality homes and improved communal spaces that reflect the needs of residents.

"We look forward to continuing our partnership with Poplar HARCA and the local community to bring these plans to life"

Poplar HARCA development and regeneration director Paul Dooley said: “This is a real win for residents who gave their time and efforts to make sure this master plan delivers the things that are important for local people.”
