Engineering and consulting company SYSTRA, as part of a consortium, has been appointed to design 18 road bridges north of Limfjord in Denmark.

This forms part of the country's 2035 Infrastructure Plan.

The Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet) has commissioned the project, which entails the redesign of approximately 20km of motorway into a four-lane route.

SYSTRA will be responsible for the design of a series of bridges and wildlife passages in this development.

The project scope includes not only the bridges but also the creation of interchanges, connection facilities, and the reconstruction of local roads and paths.

Additionally, noise barriers will be installed to mitigate the acoustic impact on the surrounding open countryside.

The deliverables include six new major road bridges ranging from 15m to 150m in length, nine smaller bridges primarily for wildlife crossings, two medium-sized road bridges, and one new footbridge over the existing motorway.

Design work by SYSTRA is set to commence in the latter half of 2025, with the entire project expected to reach completion by 2031.

Systra head of bridges, structures and geotechnics Julie Bernth said: "We are very proud to participate in ensuring solutions that are both sustainable and safe for traffic, which support growth and mobility throughout northern Jutland, and we look forward to continuing the good collaboration with the Vejdirektoratet."

This announcement follows SYSTRA's recent selection to contribute to a cross-border express line between France and Italy to reduce road congestion and streamlining traffic from Nice.

Additionally, SYSTRA France, a division of the Systra Group, secured a nine-year contract involving general and technical project management assistance for the Bordeaux-Toulouse and Bordeaux-Dax high-speed line.
