Strabag SIS, a subsidiary of Strabag, has secured a contract to develop a 16.3km stretch of the D35 motorway linking Úlibice and Hořice in the Czech Republic.

The project, valued at approximately €177m ($207m), forms part of a consortium effort, with STRABAG SIS holding an 85% share.

Officials expect construction to begin in April 2026, with the roadworks scheduled for completion within 46 months.

Plans indicate the route will open to traffic after 34 months following commencement.

The scheme covers the delivery of 18 bridge structures totalling 914m in length, as well as about 2,800m of noise barriers and a grade-separated junction with branch lengths of 1,209m.

Additional works will involve relocating utility lines and installing new drainage systems.

This new segment forms part of the ongoing development of the Czech national motorway network, in line with objectives set out in the Transport Infrastructure Development Plan.

As a component of the E442 international corridor, the D35 supports both freight and passenger transport.

Once completed, it will replace the existing two-lane I/35, a route currently experiencing congestion due to high volumes of heavy goods vehicles passing through local communities.

Strabag management board member Péter Glöckler said: “We are delighted to contribute to modern and safe mobility infrastructure in the Czech Republic with this major project. The new section will ease the burden on the region, improve mobility, and significantly enhance safety along this vital transport corridor.”

Project delivery will utilise expertise from several divisions within Strabag. The company indicates that it will leverage its in-house resources to ensure reliable construction quality.

Implementation will feature modern 3D machine control technology and LEAN construction methods to promote efficiency in both building and logistics processes.
