The City of Mississauga in Ontario, Canada, has chosen sustainable design and engineering company Stantec to spearhead the detailed design and contract administration of the Dundas BRT Mississauga East Corridor.

This transit project includes over 7km of bus rapid transit with eight stops, aimed at improving travel times and boosting ridership.

The Dundas BRT Mississauga East segment, led by the City of Mississauga, has an estimated budget of C$580m ($417.7m).

This budget encompasses design, construction, land acquisition, and regional utility upgrades to improve construction efficiency.

Stantec's Water group, in collaboration with CIMA+, will replace approximately 12,500m of water main and 12,600m of wastewater main, employing trenchless tunnelling and open-cut techniques.

These infrastructure improvements will be coordinated with the roadway construction to reduce community impact and enhance cost and schedule efficiency.

The Dundas BRT Mississauga East project plays a vital role in the broader regional transit expansion, supporting Metrolinx’s 2041 Regional Transportation Plan.

The project also supports the City of Mississauga’s 2018 Dundas Connects Master Plan, which aims to foster urban growth while adhering to environmental commitments and community interests.

Its design will feature dedicated median bus lanes and Intelligent Transportation Systems for improved signal timings and transit priority. New and upgraded stops will be made more accessible to all passengers.

Stantec will oversee consulting, design, tender preparation, procurement support, construction, post-construction, and maintenance administration services.

The project will also include utility relocation coordination, permitting, and approvals facilitation, with a focus on environmentally friendly practices to reduce the carbon footprint.

Stantec has engaged in various BRT projects across North America and is involved in several transit expansion projects in the Greater Toronto Area.

Stantec executive vice-president of infrastructure Susan Walter said: “The Dundas BRT will provide direct connections to urban light rail and the wider regional transit network, connecting mobility hubs and enhancing transit services locally and regionally.

“BRT solutions are a growing trend across North America, and we are excited to provide our expertise and support the City of Mississauga.”

In April 2025, Stantec announced an agreement to acquire Page, further expanding its architectural and engineering capabilities.
