Skanska has entered into a contract with Longwood University for the construction of a new performing arts centre, replacing the existing Wygal Hall in Farmville, Virginia, US.

The Swedish construction company said that the deal is valued at $73m.

It will be reflected in Skanska's US order bookings for the third quarter (Q3) of 2025.

The project encompasses the demolition of the current Bristow building and the development of a new 6,000m² facility.

This new centre will accommodate existing programmes previously housed in Wygal Hall.

The building will feature music teaching spaces, rehearsal and performance areas, offices, and a 500-seat concert hall.

The new facility will be designed to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-(LEED) NC Silver certification, the company said in its press release.

The construction of the new facility began last month and is set for completion by April 2028.

This week, Skanska signed a contract with the Trust for Governors Island to construct a new substation on Governors Island, New York City.

The contract, valued at $67m, will be recorded in Skanska’s US order bookings for Q3 2025.

The project involves both preconstruction and construction services for a 27kV enclosed substation.

Last month, Skanska secured a contract with Durham Tech Community College to build a new health sciences facility in Durham, North Carolina.

The contract is valued at $69m.

The project involves constructing a three-storey building covering approximately 7,400m²  in size.

This new facility will accommodate various programmes at Durham Tech Community College, the company said.
