BAM has been selected to deliver a sustainable and mixed-use extension of Rabobank’s headquarters campus located in Utrecht, Netherlands.
The project is set to deliver an 81,600m² mixed-use extension to the Croeselaan campus, featuring 67,000m² of office space, 145 rental homes across various market segments, and a range of public amenities.
Rabobank plans to integrate its current headquarters and a new office building into a single complex.
The extension involves refurbishing the existing Zilver building to meet future standards, while the Auditorium structure, formerly on the matser site, has already been dismantled using circular demolition methods, with much of its material retained for future use.
The new housing element will be developed in partnership with real estate developer BPD.
BAM Bouw en Techniek projects managing director Eric Moleman said: “The matser site is more than a construction project for us. It represents the next step in our long-standing partnership with Rabobank in Utrecht. For many years, our colleagues have been on site every day, providing facilities management and maintenance services for the headquarters. We have also delivered a range of internal refurbishment projects, including the dealing room.”
According to BAM, the project will prioritise reducing carbon emissions through the reuse of materials, the adoption of sustainable and low-carbon alternatives, and enhancements to the overall efficiency of the design.
A digital sustainability dashboard will monitor energy consumption and other environmental metrics throughout both design and construction stages, to support real-time decision-making.
Measures will also be taken to limit transport and optimise logistics, reducing emissions during construction.
Moleman further added: “Together, we are now creating a sustainable, green campus where living, working and social interaction come together. This project provides an excellent opportunity for BAM to apply its expertise and experience in delivering sustainable and complex urban developments.”
After the agreement’s signing, Rabobank and BAM will refine the project’s sustainable design in a joint pre-construction phase.
In this phase, BAM will work with partners previously selected by Rabobank, including Team V, OKRA, Deerns, IMd, CBRE, BBN and IGG, with an intention to formalise a construction contract once development plans are finalised.
