Nordic community builder Peab has been contracted for two new projects in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The projects involve the construction of a new police station alongside the reconstruction and extension of the Administrative Court building.

Stockholm-based property management company Specialfastigheter is the client for the police station development project. The value of this turnkey contract is Skr207m ($19.25m).

The new police station will be developed on a 20,000m² property in the region. The station will measure 8,000m² with two storeys and feature a garage, offices, conference rooms, training spaces, an unloading area, and a workshop.

The structure will be constructed as per the Miljöbyggnad Gold certification.

Specialfastigheter project manager Mikael Lindberg said: “This project is done in collaboration between the Swedish Police Authority and Specialfastigheter. Specialfastigheter is really pleased to be able to start up the production phase now, together with the Swedish Police Authority and Peab.”

Construction is expected to start late this year and is projected to be finished by late 2025, when the Swedish Police Authority will relocate to the building.

Peab will book this contract in its second-quarter order bookings for this year.

Separately, Peab has been contracted by property owner Skandia Fastigheter to renovate and expand the Administrative Court building in Heden within the city.

The turnkey contract is valued at Skr110m.

The facility is expected to meet the demands of the Administrative Court with a four-storey addition of court and office space of approximately 2,300m² and the restoration of existing premises while operations continue. The expansion will also include a new entrance and security corridor.

Skandia Fastigheter project manager Henrik Pihlblad said: “Climate impact from building material during the construction phase is a prioritised matter for Skandia Fastigheter and our targets regarding reducing fossil emissions are very high.

“Minimising the amount of steel and concrete and using a wooden frame as well as trying to reuse the material already in the building reduces climate impact.”

Construction is set to begin in November of this year, with the project anticipated to be completed by December 2025.

This contract will be booked by Peab in its order bookings for this year's third quarter.
