Peab, a Nordic construction and civil engineering company, has been awarded a contract to expand the smolt facility at Sævareid in Bjørnafjorden, Norway.

The contract, valued at Nkr116m ($11m), was secured from Artec Aqua, a turnkey supplier for onshore aquaculture.

The facility is for Sævareid Fiskeanlegg, which produces smolt.

The expanded facility for fry salmon in Bjørnafjorden, south of Bergen, is set to increase the company's production capacity to 29 million smolts annually.

Construction plans comprise a newly added building with a gross floor area of 4,800m².

This new facility will be built on the same site as the current operation, with some of the oldest sections of the existing buildings scheduled for demolition.

The project, which was order registered in the first quarter of 2025, is expected to be completed by late 2027.

Peab K. Nordang managing director Kjetil Nordang said: "We look forward to start working and continue our good collaboration with Artec Aqua. Peab has extensive expertise in both buildings for foodstuffs and complex concrete work."

Peab, headquartered in Förslöv in southern Sweden, employs around 13,000 people across the Nordics.

The company recently won another contract to build a combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Örtofta, Sweden, for Kraftringen Energi, a municipality-owned energy company. The contract for the CHP plant is valued at Skr388m.

In addition to these projects, Peab has also been selected to work on a new holiday home complex, Trysil Suites, in Trysil, Norway.
