Peab Asfalt, a subsidiary of Nordic builder Peab, has been selected by Danish construction company Zøllner to undertake the paving work for the transformation of the Hillerød-Allerød expressway into a four-lane highway.

The contract, valued at Dkr82m ($12.9m), will see Peab Asfalt working on a 13.5km stretch of road on the island of Zealand, Denmark.

The project involves paving four bridges, applying road markings, and milling the existing asphalt to make way for new on- and off-ramps.

Peab Asfalt Denmark managing director Claus Terkildsen said: "This is one of our largest orders and it’s very positive for our Danish business. We are also very pleased that the entire delivery will be ECO-Asfalt.

"This significantly raises the project's green profile and contributes to strengthening our position on the market."

A notable aspect of the project is the delivery of 105,000 tons (t) of ECO-Asfalt, which is produced using certified biogas instead of natural gas. This approach is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 2,600t.

Zøllner A/S, Peab's client, secured the construction contract from the Danish Road Directorate, which oversees road infrastructure in Denmark, similar to the Swedish Transport Administration in Sweden.

Zøllner department head Hassan Al-Najar added: "Over the years, we've collaborated very well with Peab Asfalt. We have every confidence that with their extensive experience and expertise the work will be done satisfactorily."

The work on the highway is scheduled to commence in April 2026, with completion expected by May 2027.

The project will be registered in Peab’s order books in the third quarter of 2025.

Last month, Peab was chosen to execute infrastructure and pipeline work for the new Åkersberga city district, Hagby äng och kulle, located 2.5km west of Åkersberga’s city centre. This development aims to integrate urban living with green spaces and recreational areas.

Additionally, a joint venture between Peab and Heba is developing a nursing home on Lilla Essingen in Stockholm, also in Sweden, with Peab being responsible for the construction, including a two-storey underground garage.
