Australia's Parramatta Leagues Club has received formal approval from the Parramatta Local Planning Panel to proceed with the A$350m ($250m) redevelopment under the Parramatta Live Masterplan.

Stage 1 construction of the project is scheduled to begin in early 2027, with the new venue expected to open in 2028.

The Parramatta Live Masterplan, recommended by City of Parramatta planning officers, outlines a staged process that will be carried out while the Club remains operational.

The initial phase will deliver a new four-storey Leagues Club, including a sports bar, café, restaurant spaces, conference facilities and a multi-purpose auditorium.

Later phases will deliver an eight-storey, 149-room hotel for tourism and conferences, a separate two-storey hospitality building for food and beverage operators, a 450m² youth hub, and additional health and leisure facilities.

The project will also incorporate outdoor public spaces to provide connections between CommBank Stadium and Parramatta’s central business district.

The youth hub will address the needs of the growing youth population in the region, which is forecast to increase from 36,000 to over 61,000 by 2036.

Parramatta Leagues Club president Mark Jenkins said: “Since 1956, Parramatta Leagues Club has been a cornerstone of this community and an important part of Western Sydney.

“Today's approval is the moment our members, Eels supporters and the people of Western Sydney have been waiting for.

“This is our largest ever investment in our venue – a A$350m commitment that will deliver a new Leagues Club and integrated entertainment precinct that our members can be truly proud of, and a destination that Western Sydney can call its own.”

The development will proceed in three main stages. Stage 1 includes the construction of a new clubhouse and modifications to the car park. Stage 2 will focus on expanding food, beverage and leisure facilities. Stage 3 will add the hotel component.

Parramatta Leagues Club will now move to finalise design and construction planning after securing planning approval.

The project is expected to generate 1,369 construction jobs.
