Swedish construction company NCC has been commissioned by Jönköping Municipality to construct a new nursing home and group home, including earth and groundworks.

The contract is valued at approximately Skr370m ($39m) and will be executed under a fixed-price construction contract.

The nursing home is planned to have three floors, accommodating 97 residential units. It will also provide areas for staff operations, recreational activities, and administrative functions.

The project includes a group home with six residential units, each featuring its own entrance and patio, along with shared facilities such as a greenhouse, waste sorting room, and storage, the company said in a press release.

Niklas Sparw, head of NCC Building Sweden, said:

“NCC has built many nursing homes across Sweden, and we will be able to bring our broad experience from a wide range of similar projects to bear in this contract.

“We look forward to helping Jönköping Municipality achieve its objectives with a modern nursing home and group home in purpose-built premises with a low climate footprint.”

The development will cover almost 20,000m² on the Omtanken 1 property in Jönköping.

The nursing home will be constructed using a cross-laminated timber framework with necessary weatherproofing.

Construction is expected to start in the third quarter of 2025, with completion anticipated by autumn 2028.

The order will be registered in the NCC Building Sweden business area in the third quarter of 2025.

In August 2025, NCC was selected for a contract by Svenska kraftnät, a Swedish electricity transmission system operator, to plan and build power lines in Västra Götaland County.

The contract, valued at approximately Skr7.5bn ($790.77m), involves the development of over 450km of new overhead power lines, the extension of an existing corridor, and the dismantling of current lines.

The project is projected to span a decade, with planning set to commence immediately.
