HUB and MARK secure planning permission for BTR project in Birmingham

The development was conceived with input from local community members.

UK-based residential developer HUB and real estate investment manager MARK have received planning permission for a build-to-rent (BTR) project at 2 Snowhill Plaza in central Birmingham, UK.

Approved by Birmingham City Council, the plan for 2 Snowhill Plaza will replace a vacant commercial site with a new residential project.

Designed by architect Metropolitan Workshop, the project will build 462 units, with on-site affordable housing and three-bedroom family residences.

The 48-storey structure is expected to be one of Birmingham’s tallest and newest additions to the city centre’s developing cluster of high-rise projects.

The proposal is said to improve pedestrian connection and establish a better public realm between Snow Hill Queensway and Weaman Street.

Approximately 600m² of improved public, seating, and cycle storage space will be created.

The project was developed in close consultation with the local community and key participants in the neighbourhood.

HUB senior development manager Brad Burridge said: “Securing planning permission for this scheme - HUB’s second in Birmingham - means we are a step closer to delivering much-needed high-quality homes in the city centre.

“2 Snowhill Plaza will be a striking landmark building for Birmingham, with a new public route that will open up this part of the city centre for pedestrians.”

The project is MARK’s first in the UK BTR sector.

MARK UK & Ireland managing director Lily Lin said: “This project - our first UK build-to-rent investment - will be a strong addition to our portfolio of residential-led developments in the UK, through which we are delivering hundreds of homes across a range of price points and tenures in a mix of geographies.”
