A consortium led by Suez has secured a civil engineering contract from Métropole Nice Côte d'Azur and Eau d'Azur for the new Haliotis 2 wastewater treatment facility in Nice, France.
Vinci Construction subsidiary Triverio Construction and Razel-Bec are other members of the consortium.
Claimed to be the largest wastewater treatment and recovery complex in the country, the project is being built with an investment of €700m.
Work on the project is anticipated to commence in mid-2024.
The scope of the work comprises demolishing or repurposing various existing elements at the site and the construction of updated water and sludge treatment structures.
Other works include the installation of air treatment systems, electrical systems, heat recovery and biogas recovery systems, and the construction of operating premises and structures related to roads and utilities.
Expected to be instrumental in Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur’s environmental transition, the project has been designed for a treatment capacity of 680,000 population equivalent.
Through biogas, dewatered sludge, and wastewater recovery activities, the project is anticipated to help eliminate approximately 15,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents each year from 2030.
According to Vinci, the project will adhere to the principles of the circular economy, where most of the existing equipment at the site, along with the rubble and materials generated during demolition, will be reused.
