Western Australian Government seeks EOI for housing projects

The government launches this EOI amid a range of housing reform initiatives in the region.

July 26 2023

The Western Australian (WA) Government is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from builders and developers to deliver social housing across the state.

The amended call for submissions (CFS) for social housing is encouraging interested housing industry players to submit applications to build social homes in Perth or rural WA, with a preference for apartment units or grouped residential developments.

The government is investing a record A$2.6bn ($1.76bn) in social housing and homelessness programmes in the region. This includes building approximately 4,000 social homes and providing thousands more homes with renovations and maintenance.

With the development of many state government building panels, 25 new small and medium-sized family-owned builders were contracted to build new social housing for the next financial year.

Almost 100 small and medium-sized builders have been selected for the statewide Builders Panel and are now pre-approved to construct new social housing.

The Department of Communities intends to issue more calls for submission in the second half of 2023, to form partnerships with community housing providers and municipal governments.

To increase the availability of social housing in WA, the government has launched a range of innovative and adaptable housing reform initiatives.

WA Government Housing Minister John Carey said: “The Cook government’s ‘call for submissions’ procurement process is part of several reforms we’re undertaking to strengthen and accelerate the delivery of social housing across Western Australia.

“This CFS supports a number of significant housing delivery reforms already implemented by the Cook government to help boost the supply of social housing throughout Western Australia.

“Since our record A$2.6bn investment in social housing and homelessness measures, our government has added more than 1,300 social homes with a further 1,100 social homes under contract or construction.”
