Veidekke‘s Swedish subsidiary, Arcona, has entered an agreement with Genesta for the Zinko refurbishment project’s next phase in Stockholm.

The collaborative design and build contract is worth approximately Skr336m ($31.54m).

The project involves the transformation of roughly 15,700m2 of office space at Södermalm.

Arcona has been working on the development, involving Hornsgatan 122–130, since 2021.

The company’s role has included identifying development alternatives, analysing technical conditions, making calculations, and planning the execution of the project.

The new contract encompasses the actual refurbishment phase, which will see extensive modernisation with an emphasis on sustainability, aesthetics, and technology.

It will also include technological enhancements to all five buildings and the addition of two new floors to Hornsgatan 124.

The Zinko quarter will offer office space and a rooftop terrace for tenants as well as feature shops, a fitness centre, and restaurants at street level.

The property aims to achieve an Outstanding rating under the BREEAM In-Use standard. It is expected to open its doors to the first tenants by the end of 2025.

Arcona Peter Kihlman said: “Arcona is proud to have been entrusted by Genesta with the completion of the Zinko project, which preserves and protects period architectural features while also creating a state of the art, sustainable and attractive hub for both daytime and evening activities.

“Our solid, long-standing relationship with Genesta has been pivotal for the project’s success to date.”

The contract will be registered in the second quarter of 2024.

In March, Arcona secured an execution contract to undertake a renovation project at the Södersjukhuset hospital.
