The Yokohama Rubber Company has announced that it will build a new off-highway tyre plant in Andhra Pradesh, India that will entail an investment of $165m.

To be located in Atchutapuram Industrial Park, Visakhapatnam, the new plant will have a daily production capacity of 55 tonnes (rubber weight).

The company said that the location of the plant is convenient for exporting finished products.

With a total area of approximately 320,000m², the project’s site can accommodate future expansion plans.

Once operational, the facility will manufacture Alliance, Galaxy and Primex brand tyres that are used on agricultural, construction, industrial and forestry machines.

The new facility will be used to expand the production capacity of ATG (Alliance Tire Group), a Yokohama Rubber Group company engaged in the manufacture and sale of off-highway tyres.

Construction on the project will begin in the third quarter of 2020, and the plant will become operational in the first quarter of 2023.

Currently, ATG has two tyre plants in India – the Dahej Plant in Gujarat and the Tirunelveli Plant in Tamil Nadu.

The plants manufacture all three of the company’s core off-highway tyre brands – Alliance, Galaxy and Primex brands.

In February 2018, Yokohama Rubber announced an expansion project at Dahej Plant to boost production capacity. When completed, the capacity of the plant has been increased 1.6-fold.

Yokohama believes that that new facility in Visakhapatnam will expand the group’s global off-highway tyre production network to eight plants in four nations. This includes three plants in India, one plant in Israel, one plant in Vietnam, and three plants in Japan.
