Construction on the One Congress office tower in Boston, US, has officially started with a ground-breaking ceremony.
With one million square feet of office space, the 600ft One Congress is part of the Bulfinch Crossing redevelopment, a 2.9-million-square-foot mixed-use development project designed to transform Government Center Garage.
A 50-50 joint venture between Carr Properties and National Real Estate Advisors owns the One Congress office building, which will house the future headquarters of financial services firm State Street. HYM Investment Group is serving as the project developer.
State Street will occupy 510,000ft² of office space in the building. Project construction is expected to be completed by 2022.
Designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli, One Congress will offer panoramic views of the city, the Boston Harbor, Financial District and the Charles River.
The tower will have more than 30,000ft² of fitness, wellness, food and beverage offerings, as well as an outdoor roof garden on the 11th floor. Other amenities include bike facilities and parking.

By GlobalDataBoston mayor Martin Joseph Walsh said: “As the future home for State Street’s headquarters, One Congress will fuel economic development and pedestrian activity in Bulfinch Crossing.
“Once complete, this transformational project will support our city, creating income-restricted housing units and contributing over $12m in linkage funding to support additional affordable housing and workforce development programming.”
The building is within walking distance to North Station and South Station. It is situated atop two MBTA subway lines and close to Logan Airport.
Bulfinch Crossing will house residential, office, hotel and retail offerings. The project will feature more than 800 residential units, 200 hotel rooms, 1.15 million square feet of office space, and 82,500ft² of new retail.
