Webuild has announced work on continental Europe’s second-longest suspended bridge has exceeded 67%.
The construction of the Braila Bridge has entered a significant phase with Webuild raising the 1,120m steel deck in sections.
This 1,975m bridge is being built over the Danube River in eastern Romania
More than 250 workers and technicians climbed to place 62 of the 86 segments that will compose the deck.
Weighing an average of 260t, each segment measures 25m in width, 32m in length and 3.2m in height.
On behalf of Romania’s Ministry of Infrastructure, the state company CNAIR commissioned the project.

By GlobalDataThe project is being constructed by a joint venture led by Webuild and funded by the Operational Programme for Large Infrastructure (POIM).
The bridge will feature four lanes, an emergency lane, and cycling and pedestrian paths upon its completion.
It will also include two lateral spans of 490 and 365m long, and an access of 90m long flyovers on either side.
The bridge will remain suspended with cable made of intertwined steel wires whose combined length would be nearly 38,000km.
A network of roads for a total 23km is also being built.
This project will enable 7,000 vehicles to cross the Danube River every day in two minutes as against the regular 45 minutes it takes by ferry
The bridge is 95km from the delta of the Danube and 8km from the center of Braila.
This project belongs to the Rhine-Danube Corridor of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).
