Telford & Wrekin Council has appointed construction services provider Willmott Dixon to construct the first phase of the Station Quarter project in Telford, the UK.

The latest move follows the £22.3m funding secured by the council from the Government’s Towns Fund.

The development will be located between the town’s railway station and Telford town centre. It will include new homes, a digital skills and enterprise hub, which will be operated by Telford College and the University of Wolverhampton.

Willmott Dixon secured the contract through the Pagabo’s Major Works Framework.

Telford & Wrekin Council Economy, Housing, Transport and Infrastructure cabinet member Cllr David Wright said: “The Station Quarter will be a transformational development for Telford and we are delighted that we will be working with one of the country’s leading construction companies as our partner in the project.

“The £22.3million secured from the Towns Fund for our bid will prove a game-changer for Telford and the wider borough, helping us boost the skills of the area’s workforce and providing more new homes for local people.

“Willmott Dixon will now be working with the council and partners to support design development in preparation for the submission of a planning application in spring next year as well as supporting the council to preparing business cases, which is the next stage in securing the Towns Investment Funding.”

Last year, Willmott Dixon delivered the £20m regeneration of Rochdale Riverside, which created approximately 200,000ft2 of retail and leisure space.

The company also handed over the Llys Cadwyn development in Pontypridd to Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council.

The development was a business and leisure scheme that replaced a derelict 1960’s shopping centre.
