Webuild and its consortium partner Pizzarotti have won a €616m contract to design and build a section of the Palermo-Catania rail line in Italy.
Work on this section, called as Lot 4b, includes design and construction of the Nuova Enna-Dittaino.

Webuild holds 70% stake in the consortium, while Pizzarotti owns the remaining interest.
The contract has been awarded by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) of the Italian state railway operator Gruppo Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane.
The work under this contract is being funded by Italy’s National Plan for Recovery and Resilience.

By GlobalDataThe project is anticipated to generate 650 jobs, both direct and indirect, and will see involvement of a supply chain of 100 firms.
It includes building 15km of new railway, of which 8.5km will pass via three tunnels, and another 2km across five viaducts.
The project also involves building a train station at Enna and upgrading another at Dittaino.
The Palermo-Catania railway is part of an initiative under the European Union to develop a sustainable mobility network called the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).
Webuild is currently involved in building Bicocca Catenanuova section of the same Palermo-Catania line.
