VRB Energy has commenced construction of 100MW/500MWh Vanadium Redox Flow Battery Energy Storage Project in Hubei Province, China.

Hubei Province and the State Power Investment Group are implementing the project located in Xiangyang, as part of China’s national “Carbon Neutral and Carbon Peak Strategy”.

The project will involve a total investment of $1.44bn (RMB9.32bn), of which $772.04m (RMB5bn) will be used for the construction of the 1GW wind power and photovoltaic power generation projects.

About $668m (RMB4.32bn) will be used to build the initial 100MWh all-vanadium redox flow battery energy storage power station and the 500MW of distributed rooftop photovoltaic installations.

The Power Station for the project is located in the Automobile Industrial Park of the Xiangyang High-tech Development Zone and will occupy an area of about eight hectares. The station is expected to be officially commissioned for operation before the end of 2022.
