Climate solutions company Bord na Móna and semi-state-owned utility business ESB have selected French renewable energy company Voltalia to build a solar farm in the Republic of Ireland.

The new solar farm will be built at Timahoe North in the county of Kildare.

This project will be the first large-scale solar project of the ESB-Bord joint venture, which intends to build up to 500MW of solar farms on Bord’s land.

Voltalia received the contract to undertake engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) works for the farm.

This new facility will have an installed capacity of 108MW and is expected to become completely operational towards the end of next year.

With the capacity to power almost 61,500 residents’ homes, the power plant is expected to help the country in meeting its 2030 renewable energy targets by supplying more green energy to homes, companies, and communities.
