VolkerFitzpatrick has secured a contract from Prologis UK to design and construct two new warehouses, worth more than $34.6m (£26m), at its Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal (DIRFT) site.

Construction works for the project are expected to run from this month to August next year.

The project includes construction of two warehouses with an internal area of 232,302ft² and 281,890ft².

Featuring built-up cladding and roofing system, each warehouse will have an internal height of 18m, and will be built using a steel frame.

Upon completion, the warehouses will feature two-storey main office accommodation, smaller office spaces, located outside warehouse perimeter.

Additionally, each unit will have a reception space, kitchen and welfare facilities.

The other works at the site include car parking facilities, hardstanding areas, landscaping and drainage.

During the construction phase, VolkerFitzpatrick will engage with the local community and work with the local supply chain contractors.

It will adjust the finished site levels during the earthworks and groundworks phase, thereby eliminating the need to remove waste materials from site.

Prologis UK awarded this contract after VolkerFitzpatrick successfully delivered many industrial facilities at the DIRFT site.

VolkerFitzpatrick Building division managing director Stuart Deverill said: “I am delighted that Prologis UK has once again chosen to work with VolkerFitzpatrick to further develop its DIRFT site.

“This latest appointment is testament to the strong, collaborative relationship we have built over the years and our established position in the industrial and distribution sector.”

In September this year, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy appointed VolkerFitzpatrick to design and build two wind turbine manufacturing facilities as well as repurpose an existing factory at its Hull site.
