
Construction and civil engineering firm Veidekke has secured a design and build contract worth $67.9m (NOK608m) from Omsorgsbygg Oslo KF to construct new Majorstuhjemmene nursing home in Oslo, Norway.
The scope of work under the contract involves demolition of the existing structures and construction of a new, environmentally certified nursing home.
Veidekke also plans to reuse a range of materials in the new building.
The new 16,000m2 facility will have 120 nursing home places and also includes a library, elderly day care, a café and conservatories.
It will also include a public square facing the Oslo Tramway Museum and sensory gardens on the roof and in the courtyard.
Veidekke stated that the new nursing home will be constructed with an aim to achieve the Breeam Excellent classification.
Construction work on the project is planned to commence next month and completion is scheduled in January 2024.

Separately, the company won a SEK135m contract to construct two residential units for Terrester in Torslanda, Sweden.
Named Spitfire neighbourhood, the project will include construction of two residential buildings with 75 flats and five semidetached homes.
