Veidekke, a Norwegian construction company, has been selected by the Vestfold and Telemark county municipality in Norway to build and refurbish Sandefjord Upper Secondary School.
The collaborative contract worth NOK422m ($40.3m) includes new build component and reconstruction of the existing school buildings.

As one of the largest upper secondary schools in the country, presently there are 2,000 students and 350 members of staff in the school. It is facing major upgrade and after the expansion and refurbishment, the school will have nearly 41,500m² of built-up space, said the construction firm.
Veidekke stated that school construction projects are a priority for the company and this is the fifth time in the last 12 years that the company had won a tendering competition to build an upper secondary school in Vestfold and Telemark.
The pre-project period, which includes the collaborative phase, took place between July and November last year. The next phase will start after this Easter, the company said.

As part of the contract, Veidekke will construct two new buildings with a total area of nearly 5,000m². The largest of the two buildings will have three storeys and will be built using solid wood.
Additionally, the refurbishment will include replacing 11,000m² of building stock and technical systems across a total building stock area of 20,000m².
The renewed area of the school will include changes to the floorplan along with the installation of new surfaces and new technical systems.
The façade and roof will also be refurbished with supplementary insulation. The works will be completed in phases so that the school remains fully operational.
Construction is scheduled to begin by the end of this month and is expected to be completed by the January of 2023.
