Norwegian construction company Veidekke has been awarded a contract, worth NOK 150m ($17.4m) by Arendal Eiendom to construct a new emergency building at Sørlandet Hospital in Arendal.

The new five-storey building spanning approximately 5,500m2 of area will house a new inter-municipal emergency room with an emergency centre and response centre, a section for municipal emergency help, and a triage department with 11 short-term places.

It will also include changing room and toilet facilities, several meeting rooms, storage, technical rooms and underground parking space for ambulances and police.

The new facility for emergency room, municipal emergency help and triage facilities will be connected to Arendal Hospital through an underground culvert.

The construction work of the site is scheduled to commence by the end of this month and completion is expected before Christmas next year.

Veidekke Bygg Agder district manager Atle Monan said: “This is a project that is important to many people in our region, and we greatly appreciate the contract.

Last month, the construction company unveiled plans to begin construction of a new residential project in Cederhusen.
