United Engineering Construction (UNEC) has secured a AED4.2bn ($1.14bn) contract from property developer Nakheel to build the Deira Mall shopping centre in Dubai.
According to Nakheel, Deira Mall would be the Middle East’s biggest mall with a total development value of AED6.1bn ($1.66bn).
UNEC will begin construction of the mall, dining and entertainment venues by the first quarter of this year. The company is a United Arab Emirates (UAE) based construction firm.
Scheduled to be completed by 2021, Deira Mall will cover total retail space of 17 million square feet, including more than 1,000 shops, cafes, restaurants and entertainment outlets. These will span across more than 4.5 million square feet of leasable space, with a 3.8 million square foot multi-storey car park with 8,400 spaces.

Equipped with a retractable glass roof, Deira Mall will be centred at Nakheel’s nine million square foot mixed-use community, Deira Central in Deira Islands.
Deira Central comprises 50 residential and hotel towers, mosques and fitness facilities.
