The UK government has announced £11.8m funding for the construction of a new Lyminster Bypass in West Sussex, the UK.

The new scheme will connect the southern section of the bypass road to complete a new 1.1-mile single roadway to the east of the villages Lyminster and Wick.

The road connects Littlehampton’s A259 new junction to the A284, which is south of Crossbush’s A27.

The new project will also include necessary improvements to the routes’ to and from Littlehampton, reducing congestion and support plans to build 1,260 new homes.

This is part of a government effort to boost transportation links across the country with an aim to better recover from the pandemic.

The new bypass will provide shorter and less congested routes to drivers and road users reducing travel times and avoiding the level crossings.

A 3m wide shared bicycle and walkway will be constructed on one side of the road and a signal crossing will also be built to allow cyclists, pedestrians and horseback riders to cross safely.

The project is estimated to cost nearly £21.6m and the remaining £9.8m will be provided by the West Sussex Council, Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership, and private developers.

South East Transport Chair Keith Glaziersaid: “The planned Lyminster Bypass will provide a vital connection between Littlehampton and the A27.

“This investment will help boost economic growth, support new housing and jobs, and will improve quality of life for local residents.

“A high-quality, reliable transport network is critical to our region’s economic recovery and future sustainable growth, so it’s good news that another of our top priority road schemes has received a major funding boost.”
