Vancouver-based companies Townline and Forme Development have submitted a 27-storey mixed-use development plan in Chinatown’s Central Plaza.

The plan for its Harmony project at 942 North Broadway was filed with the city planning authorities for approval.

This structure would be built on the existing parking lot and a small retail centre, which includes a bank and some storefronts. It would also be close to the Metro Gold Line’s Chinatown station.

The Harmony project will feature 178 rental residential units while five units would be allocated for low-income households.

It will also comprise four floors of office and retail space, as well as underground parking.

This plan has been designed by Chris Dikeakos Architects and features landscape architecture from SWA Group.

The developers expect to break ground on this project next year.

A 26-storey tower designed by Chicago’s Studio Gang was proposed in April. This site is four blocks from the Harmony project.

The developers are working with local developer Urban Offerings on the project.

Chinatown has seen a recent steady growth in property transactions. Last month, a 2.4-acre development property was sold for $14.6m.

A popular tourist destination in the city,  it is also known as ‘Hongcouver’ due to the presence of a significant Chinese population, particularly the first-generation immigrants from Hong Kong.
