Finnish construction firm SRV has signed an agreement with Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) to construct multipurpose shipbuilding hall at Rauma Shipyard in Rauma, Finland.

The company stated that project will be executed as a cooperative project management contract worth about €26m, of which SRV’s share will €19m.

The new multipurpose hall will provide enough space to build government vessels as well as passenger-car ferries.

The new office building is expected to have approximately 13,000m2 of gross floor area and the hall will be around 40m wide, 30m high and 180m long.

Rauma Marine Constructions CEO Jyrki Heinimaa said: “We specialise in the construction and maintenance of passenger-car ferries, icebreakers, and Defence Force vessels.

“This project is a fine example of how top experts can cooperate to further develop an existing shipyard that specialises in technologically advanced, state-of-the-art vessels.

“The new hall has been optimised for the construction of government vessels, which is a sign of our commitment to the Squadron 2020 project.”

Construction work on the new multipurpose shipbuilding hall is scheduled to commence next month.

The multipurpose hall is planned to be completed in late 2022 with the new office building in February 2023.

Architect Tero Leino has been appointed for the architectural design of the multipurpose hall and Sweco for the construction design.

Furthermore, Planneri Group and LST-Engineering will be responsible for the structural engineering and the design of the technical building systems for the project.

SRV regional director Lari Mallius said: “We’re bringing our expertise to a project that will significantly promote Finnish shipbuilding.

“Even at the construction stage, this project is ensuring versatility in the future use of the building and considering cost optimisation from the user’s perspective. Close cooperation will guarantee a successful result.”
