Real estate developer SRV is set to launch the construction of Matinkylä upper secondary school in Espoo, Finland.

The company signed an implementation phase agreement with the City of Espoo’s Premises Services unit to build the school.

The project will be executed as a cooperative project management contract worth about $48.37m (€41.5m), of which SRV’s share will be $43.71m (€37.5m).

The new school building will be developed on the west side of the Iso Omena shopping centre and will accommodate around 900 upper secondary school students.

It will have a gross floor area of about 11,000m2. The building will also include a sports hall.

Lahdelma & Mahlamäki Arkkitehdit designed the building, which will feature more adaptable learning environments.

As part of the project, the school premises will also be designed and dimensioned to make it suitable for a wide range of activities.

Work on the new school building is planned to be completed by the end of 2023.

SRV unit director responsible for the project Marko Räisänen said: “The construction project plans for Matinkylä upper secondary school were developed in a collaborative spirit with the project partners.

“The implementation solution now achieved serves the goals set for the project very well. It’s great to be involved in constructing the learning environments of the future.”

Recently, the construction firm was awarded a contract to build a multipurpose shipbuilding hall at Rauma Shipyard in Rauma, Finland.

The new multipurpose hall will enable the construction of government vessels as well as passenger-car ferries.
