Swedish construction company Skanska, along with Electrification of Railways in Prague, has secured a contract to upgrade railway track in Pardubice, Czech Republic.

The company’s share of the contract is $73.4m (SEK620m).

Skanska’s scope of work under the contract involves complete upgrade of a 7.4km-long railway track as well as the infrastructure, pre-electrification adjustments to make the track gain more capacity, and to double the whole track.

Additionally, the company will be responsible for the construction of a new train stop, a new underpass for pedestrians, several new crossings as well as a new double-track bridge.

Meanwhile, Electrification of Railways in Prague’s part of work will involve the electrification system of the project.

Construction work on the project is scheduled commence this month and is expected to be completed in December 2023.

In a separate development, Skanska divested its infrastructure services business in the UK to M Group Services for $68.7m (SEK580m).

The divested businesses include highways maintenance, rail maintenance as well as streetlighting replacement and maintenance.

Through this deal, the company gained nearly $42.6m (SEK360m).

Last month, construction company announced nearly SEK390m investment in the first stage of a new office building in Stockholm, Sweden.

The project, named Sthlm 02, is located in Hammarby Sjöstad. It will include a café and other service functions on the street level.

The new seven-storey office building will include 14,500m2 of total leasable area and also houses a metro entrance. The project’s first phase will have approximately 7,600m2 of leasable area.
