Swedish construction firm Skanska has a contract worth approximately NOK3bn ($339m) from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration for the construction of a highway in Norway.

Under the terms of the contract, the company will be responsible for the construction of a motorway between Bærum and Hole municipality in Eastern Norway.

The project aims to replace the existing road with a modern four-lane motorway, which is expected to improve the safety and accessibility for the travellers on what it claimed to be an important exit and transport route in Eastern Norway.

Skanska said that following the receipt of the contract, the project will enter into the collaboration phase between the company with other partners and the client before commencement of construction work in February next year.

The scope of the work will include the construction of four tunnels and eight bridges.

The company said that on the new 8.4km-long road, approximately three million cubic meters of different masses will be moved.

Skanska is planning to certify E16 Bjørum – Skaret according to CEEQUAL in order to ensure enough protection of external environmental aspects throughout the project.

CEEQUAL is an internationally recognized certification standard for infrastructure.

Last month, the construction company secured a NOK497m ($56.1m) contract from the City of Oslo for the groundworks for a new metro station in Oslo, Norway.

The project aims to establish a prepared construction pit ready for the next phase of the Fornebu Line construction project.

The work on the project includes excavation, blasting, loading, transportation and disposal of masses.

It also includes demolition of the existing building mass on the site, rerouting of cables and pipes in the ground.
