Skanska has secured a contract to reconstruct a waterfront park and pier in New York’s Staten Island county in the US.

Awarded by New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), the contract is valued at Skr1.4bn ($136.72m).

The contract involves the reconstruction of the esplanade and shoreline for pedestrians and bikers.

The new 3,700m² Department of Transportation Dock Builders pier, complete with an office building, a storage facility, and a bulkhead, is also part of the project’s scope.

Additionally, Skanska will be responsible for landscaping and the demolition of existing structures on the site.

The commencement of reconstruction is scheduled to begin in August 2024, with an expected completion by the end of 2026.

The company will record the project in its US order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2023.

The project is part of the overarching Staten Island North Shore Action Plan, an NYCEDC-led initiative that aims to build a mixed-use waterfront community.

The public waterfront investment will create 20 acres of open space on the North Shore’s waterfront.

This agreement comes shortly after Skanska secured a $147m contract to build a Marine Operations Center on Naval Station Newport in Rhode Island, US.
