Construction firm Skanska has secured a contract worth £52m from Network Rail to replace a bridge in the West Midlands region, UK.

Under the contract, the construction firm will replace the SAS13 bridge on the Stechford to Aston (SAS) rail line towards the east of Birmingham.

The existing bridge, which features eight masonry arches and a central steelwork span, will be demolished. It will be replaced with a single 92m span steel structure.

The works on the new bridge will pave the way for the construction of the new High Speed 2 line approach into Birmingham City centre. They will also pave the way for the planned High Speed 2 Midlands Maintenance Depot.

Work on the bridge is expected to start this month and is expected to be completed by September 2022.

The contract will be included in the order bookings for Europe in the fourth quarter of 2020.
