Skanska has signed a contract worth NOK1.5bn ($158m) with Omsorgsbygg Oslo, a municipal enterprise, for the construction of Oslo City Emergency Center in Norway.

The new emergency centre will be open 24 hours a day and will offer healthcare and social services for people living in the city of Oslo.

The new building will be located in the area at Aker Hospital and will include seven operating rooms, eight rooms for X-Ray diagnostics and nearly 100 dedicated areas for examination and treatment.

Skanska said that the new emergency centre will be built as a passive house and is expected to receive BREEAM Excellent certification. The company said that the construction site will be fossil-free.

Along with Omsorgsbygg Oslo, Skanska aims to carry out as much work as possible without any emissions. Construction work is expected to begin in March and is scheduled for completion by the middle of 2023.

Known as Tigergården, the sixth phase of the project includes 161 apartments. It includes several green areas on the rooftops.

The company also stated that it will develop the ground so that it is made easier for living in an environmentally friendly lifestyle with several parking spots for bicycles along with options for the residents to grow their own greens and vegetables.

Construction on the project started last month and could be completed by October 2022.
