Skanska and Region Värmland have entered an agreement to construct a new reception building at Central Hospital (CSK) in Karlstad, Sweden.

The contract is valued at Skr740m and will be recorded in the company’s Sweden order bookings for the third quarter of 2023.

This move marks the first of five phases covering the extensive development of CSK.

The upcoming reception building will consist of six floors dedicated to hospital operations, along with a fan room floor and a basement spanning 14,000m².

Skanska noted that it is being built with the aim of catering to daycare patients and less complex care cases.

It is also claimed to be Sweden’s first hospital building constructed with a wooden frame, featuring an exterior facade made from recycled bricks.

Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2024, following preparatory work in late 2023.

The reception building is set to be completed and ready for use before the end of 2026.

Skanska has been engaged in the planning, design, and cost estimation for some time.

In 2020, Region Värmland confirmed a record investment for the future renovation and extension of the hospital

In September 2023, Skanska secured a contract for Interstate 405 corridor improvements in the US.
