Skanska and LAK Real Estate have entered a contract with KOy Apron for the construction of a new hotel at Helsinki Airport in Finland.

Skanska noted that the contract is valued at approximately €86m, while the total investment for the project is estimated to be over €120m.

Set to be the largest in Finland, the nearly 37,800m2 hotel will have more than 700 rooms under two different brands. It will also house five restaurants, spa, rooftop sky bar and gym along with services for meetings and conferences.

Construction works are scheduled to begin next month and are expected to complete by the end of the first quarter of 2024.

LAK Real Estate CEO Ilkka Pitkänen said: “It is really exciting to take forward the development of such a large and significant hotel project with a superior location.

“The hotel will serve not only tourists but also all businesses operating at Aviapolis, the fastest growing business district in Finland with over 2,000 national and international companies next to the Helsinki Airport.

“We strongly believe in the role of Helsinki Airport as an important strategic point in global tourism.”

Nordic Choice Hotels will operate the 13-storey hotel, which will be located adjacent to Terminal 2 of the airport. The primary designer for the project is SARC Architects.

Nordic Choice Hotel owner Petter Stordalen added: “It feels fantastic that we are now taking the next step in the construction of the two terminal hotels at the airport.

“This will give airport visitors new opportunities to tailor their accommodation or create a conference experience that exceeds expectations.”

Sustainability is an important factor from the start of the hotel’s project planning, LAK Real Estate said. The aim is a 70% waste recovery rate at the construction site.
