India-based hydroelectric power generation company SJVN has received letters of award (LoAs) for three solar development projects in Assam.

The LoAs were awarded by Assam Power Development Corporation (APDCL) of India. The total estimated worth of these projects is around Rs19bn ($229.87m) and will include a cumulative capacity of 320MW.

These projects will be developed on a construct, own, and operate basis by an SJVN wholly owned subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL).

In a stock exchange filing, the company said: “The commissioning of these projects is expected to reduce 7.14 lakhs (0.714 million) tonnes of carbon emissions and would contribute to the Government of India’s mission of reduction in carbon emissions.”

The SJVN participated in three separate 50MW, 70MW, and 200MW tariff-based competitive bidding tenders of APDCL.

The third 200MW solar project will be built anywhere in Assam and has been allocated at a tariff of Rs3.90 per unit.

All these projects are estimated to create 628 million units of green energy in the initial year, with a total energy output of 14,591 million units over a 25-year timeframe.

The solar projects are scheduled to be commissioned within 18 months of signing power purchase agreements (PPA) and are estimated to be commissioned by March 2025. The PPA will be signed for a period of 25 years with APDCL.

In October last year, SGEL signed a memorandum of understanding with APDCL for a 1GW floating solar power project in Assam.
