VINCI Construction’s Australian subsidiary Seymour Whyte and engineering company SMEC have secured a contract to upgrade the Cressbrook Dam near Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia.
The companies were announced as the design and construction tenderer for the project, respectively.
The contract is an ‘alliance’ type award that unites the design-build consortium with Toowoomba Regional Council into a collaborative team.
This approximately €86m ($94.81m) safety improvement and modernisation project is designed to bolster the Cressbrook Dam’s capacity and safeguard the region against flooding.
It also strengthens the infrastructure against climate-related challenges.
These include the widening of the dam’s concrete spillway, enhancements to the dam’s filtration system, and increasing the crest height of the dam.

Construction is expected to be completed by October 2025.
