The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has announced 60% completion of the $554m Dubai-Al Ain Road project.

The project will improve and widen the Dubai-Al Ain Road.

This project in line with UAE Prime Minister and Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s vision to meet the needs of urban development and population growth across the emirate over the next five decades.

Dubai-Al Ain Road Improvement Project will improve communication with the important roads in the emirate such as Ras Al Khor Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road and the Emirates Road.

The project will also serve the present and future development projects on both sides of the Dubai-Al Ain Road.

Following completion, the project will double the capacity of the road from 6,000 to 12,000 vehicles per hour per direction.

The road will also reduce the time of journey from Bu Kadra junction to Emirates Road junction, from 16 to 8 minutes during peak hours.

The new road will benefit 1.5 million people and remove tailbacks that used to extend 2km.

RTA chairman of the board of executive directors, director general Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer said: “The RTA, under the follow up of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, continues to work on vital projects that serve the needs of the community and support the emirates development journey.

“The Dubai-Al Ain Road Improvement Project is one of the key strategic projects that aims to improve the quality of life in the city and achieve happiness for the community while also strengthening Dubai’s position amongst the world’s safest cities in traffic safety.”
